The Tie-Dye Stage of Quarantine

Hey guys, if you’ve been on any kind of social media over the last month, chances are you seen some tie-dye. Whether it’s lounge sets or a t-shirt, it’s everywhere right now. A few weeks back, I ordered some dye from Rit, some white cotton t-shirts and a cotton sweatshirt to try this DIY project again for the first time in YEARS. With the delays in shipping the last piece I ordered arrive yesterday morning. Eager to start and get this over with, I pre-washed the shirts and began to tie-dye yesterday afternoon.

These are the colors I purchased right from Rit’s website:

For the first t-shirt I rolled it up length wise kind of messy and secured with several rubber bands to create a patterned look. I used Hyacinth and Teal on this shirt, which made it a little more vibrant than the other two. For the sweatshirt and the second t-shirt, I scrunched the fabric into big messy balls and tied with rubber bands. I then used one color (rose quartz and taupe) for each shirt and i added the same dye to both sides. These two have a more subtle look that I love! While my results may have been more subtle, you can definitely add more color and less water for a more vibrant look.

I followed these directions for the most part, but the best part is…there are no rules in tie-dye and you can be as creative or not as you want!

xx Emily
